River Falls Wisconsin 2815 Prairie Drive / P.O. Box 25 54022

Gov. Jim Doyle calls it a bright spot in the economic downturn.

Wisconsin companies exported 13 percent more goods from January - September, compared to the same time a year ago. The amount exported was a state-record $15.6 billion.

Canada is still Wisconsin's largest trading partner, with exports totaling more than $5 billion this year. That's up 16 percent from 2007.

Mexico is the Badger State's second-largest export market and firms shipped 15 percent more this year than last.

China remains the state's number-three trading partner, but those exports fell by 2 percent.

Computer equipment and industrial machinery are the top Wisconsin products bought outside the U.S. Electrical machinery is next.

Exports of all those items rose while medical and scientific instruments had declines.

All told, Wisconsin is the nation's 18th largest exporting state, up from 21st a year ago.

Doyle praised companies for aggressively seeking new markets. He promised to keep doing all he can to create a climate that promotes exporting success.
