Dorothy Hanson, 83
Dorothy May Hanson, age 83, of River Falls, Wis., passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Kinnic Long Term Care.
She was born Jan. 21, 1927, in Lakota, N.D., daughter of James and Eva (Simons) Fahey. Dorothy married Rudolph Hanson on Feb. 1, 1950.
In her younger years, she spent her time tending to her gardens; she especially loved her flowers. Rudy and Dorothy had traveled to Hawaii to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary and since that time Dorothy had traveled all over the U.S., taking her grandchildren with her to visit other family members. Dorothy was always known for her sense of humor, her laugh, talking on the phone and collecting butterfly and frog objects (due to her nickname "Toad.") She was a long time member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church. She worked at State Bank of Lakota, N.D. for 6 years. She was a certified nursing assistant for approximately 20 years. Visiting with family brought Dorothy her most joy. She will be missed.
Dorothy is survived by her eight children, Donald (Francisca) Hanson of Mendota Heights, Minn., Janice (Randall) Marek of River Falls, Sharon (Roger) Reas of Park Falls, Wis., Kathleen (Keith) Danielson of Cosmos, Minn., Linda (Armando) Gerardo of El Paso, Texas, David (Maureen) Hanson of Virginia Beach, Va., Julie (Gerald) Tabele of West Melbourne, Fla., and Robert (Laura) Hanson of Phoenix, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren, Erik, Ian, Leanne, Amy, Jason, Kimberly, Zachery, Diana, Santana, Michael, Tynea, and Ally; 11 great-grandchildren, Isaac, Austin, Connor, Zeta, Drake, Kyana, Asia, Areanah, Mikayla, Caleb, and Olivia; three sisters, Maxine Anseth, Ramona (Davis) Rainsberry, and Patricia Schuh; brother-in-law, Marvin (Mildred) Hanson; three sisters-in-law, Mabel Fahey, Vivian Janzen, and Vivian Hanson; and further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph; parents; sister, Rita Schuh; and a brother, Gerald Fahey.
Mass of Christian Burial was 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 17, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in River Falls with Father Gerald Harris officiating. Interment was in St. Bridget's Cemetery. Visitation was from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, May 16, at the Cashman-Hill Funeral Home and again on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the mass at church.
Dorothy's family would like to send a sincere thank you to the staff at Comforts of Home and Kinnic LTC for all of their care and compassion shown towards her.
