The Doornink family and Jon-De Farm Inc. hosted the 2012 version of St. Croix County's 2012 Farm-City Day on Aug. 11. The event marked the 31st year for Farm-City Day.
Attendees enjoyed guided dairy and crop tours, antique machinery, pony rides, music, food and more. There was no charge for the event, thanks to the many farmers and businesses that donate food, time and funding for the event.
The event gives kids and adults who do not have much experience with agriculture a chance to see what farming is like.
Todd Doornink, one of the owners of Jon-De Farm, said the farm is a larger dairy, so that makes it unique in comparison to other farms in the area.
Jon-De Farm is located south of Baldwin at 2061 30th Ave., just west of Highway 63. 2012 marks Jon-De Farm's 100th anniversary. The farm was established in 1912 by John H. and Willamina Doornink.
Currently, the farm is operated by Doornink, a fourth-generation owner who heads the dairy operations and his father, Dean Doornink, who is in charge of the financial and crop production decisions.
