Donavon A. Dahms, 61

Donavon A. "Donnie" Dahms, of Hamilton, Mont., and formerly of River Falls, died on Thursday, July 2, 2009. His death was due to cancer caused by Agent Orange exposure. He was 61 years old.

The son of Eunice and Elmer (Pete) Dahms, Donnie was born in Spring Valley, and graduated from River Falls Senior High in 1965. A Vietnam veteran, Donnie served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968. He was part of the 2nd Armored "Hell on Wheels" Division and a member of the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment, "Blackhorse."

Donnie was a handyman who could fix or build just about anything. He enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, playing cards or shooting pool and spending time with close friends. He loved God, his family, home cooking, hunting and Montana. He will be remembered for his quick laugh and generous spirit. Those who knew him are grateful for having been part of his life.

Donnie is survived by his mother, Eunice Dahms; his sisters: Margie Miller, Bonnie Wheeler, Deb Larson and Wendy Schussler; and brother Peter Dahms. He is also survived by a number of relatives and friends including Mike Best and the clan at the "Rainbow" in Hamilton.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mindy; father, Pete; and sister, Sherri.

A private service was held on Monday, July 6, at Fort Snelling.
