Donald Kusilek, 64

Donald Louis Kusilek, age 64, died suddenly April 3, 2010, at his home in Hastings, Minn.

He was born January 15, 1946, to Mabel Filkins and H. "Heavy" Van Shlyke in Hastings. Donald was a graduate of Hastings High School and served in the United States Army as a cook. He was employed at Armor's as a meat cutter and later owned a bar on Vermillion Street in Hastings for a short time. He was a member of the American Legion Club and Eagles Club.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Louis and Theresa Filkins; father, George Kusilek; mother, Mabel (Filkins) Kusilek.

He is survived by his partner, Candace Hancock of Hastings; beloved cousins, Diane (Robert) Olson of River Falls, Wis., Rita Dooley of Las Vegas, Nev., Heidi (Brad) Molitor of Hastings; two godsons, Steven Carr of Las Vegas, Nev.; Robert Olson Jr. of Hastings; Candace's children, Mike Hancock of Colorado, Randy Hancock of Hastings, Monica (Bill) Moes of Hastings; grandchildren, Chris Nelson of Hastings, Austin Hancock of Tulsa, Okla., Andrew Hancock of Woodbury, Cassidy Moes of Hastings, Zeth Garcia of Colorado Springs, Colo.; many cousins and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Fr. Jim Perkl, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 8, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. 15th St., Hastings. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings, as well as one hour prior to mass at church on Thursday. Interment, St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery, River Falls. Pallbearers are Chris Nelson, Mike Hancock, Randy Hancock, John Lee, LeRoy Chandler, Carol Karnick. Honorary pallbearers are Lenny Freiermuth, Pat Freiermuth, Tom Furney, Mike Kavitz, Steven Carr, Robert Olson Jr., James Irwin.
