"From Denmark to Wisconsin" author at RFPL April 9
AAUW member Helen Stoltz-Wood will discuss the "how to" of her family history book "From Denmark to Wisconsin: One Family-Two Ships 1641-2011" on Tuesday, April 9, at the River Falls Public Library at 7:30 p.m. at the River Falls Branch of AAUW's monthly meeting.
She will relate her experiences researching family genealogy and provide ideas on how to "Surround Your People With History." She will share documents that once completed, will help others begin the quest and will answer questions from the audience as well.
The Wisconsin Historical Society in conjunction with the Wisconsin State Genealogical Society has awarded Stoltz-Wood of Hudson, the 2012 Genealogy/Family History Book Award of Merit for her work.
The award is given to the author of a genealogy book that best documents the history of a Wisconsin family and in the opinion of an independent panel of judges, made the most valuable contribution to the public understanding of Wisconsin's past during the preceding calendar year. "From Denmark to Wisconsin" tells the saga of a Danish-American family from the 17th century in Denmark, through their 19th century immigration to northwestern Wisconsin to the present, primarily in Polk and St. Croix counties.
The presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited. Coffee and conversation will complete the evening.
