“Celebrating Small Town America” was the theme of 2003’s River Falls Days. Chelsea Lauing was named Grand Ambassador with Lindsey Stratton and Emily Loney serving as first and second Ambassadors. Brother and sister Tony and Amber Pechacek found this year’s medallion, hidden in a retaining wall at Larson Park on the south end of the city; and River Falls’ own Greg Elliott was in charge of fireworks for the 19th year.
Romaine Hanson’s float for her business, “You Take the Cake” took first place in the parade, River Falls School District Kids Club float took “most humorous;” and complaints were made that folks setting chairs and blankets up three days before the parade made Second Street look like a slum area.In other River Falls Days events, Ryan Meissen of River Falls and Jenny Wilcox of Hastings took first places at the 10K run; organizer of the car show, Mel Manthey, said the 167 entries were a record number this year with Eric Most’s 1968 Dodge Charger taking “People’s Choice;” the Kinni Valley health Foundation’s flea market at the old Clinic site on South Main Street was a huge success.
