Days Gone By: 1983 Westside Radio Show
Editor’s Note: The following story and photo were printed in the Nov. 10, 1983 River Falls Journal: “WRFW to air show called “The Westside Top Five.” WRFW, the University’s 3000-watt FM radio station, can probably claim to have some of the youngest announcers around. A group of sixth graders from Westside School is producing and airing a half-hour weekly show called, “The Westside Top Five” this fall.
The show, which is heard at 7 p.m. Thursdays, was the brainchild of Christa Robinson who serves as the program’s coordinator. Each Thursday night two or three other Westside students join her to prepare and put the show on the air.
Other students involved to date include Tracee Hughes, Traci Milliren, Rachel Esswein, Tammy Nelson, Tami Dintemann, Jason Schrank and Scott Nelson. Joining the show soon will be Angie Coddington, Bridget Terrell, Kim Zirbel and Shannon Nelson.
Each week Westside students are invited to vote for their favorite songs and listen to the “Top Five” as they are aired on WRFW.
