Days Gone By: 1963 Shoveling out

Donna, age 6, and Susan, age 4, daughters of Anton Lenzen, 1963 Journal file photo.

It wasn’t just the parents (with back aches, leg aches and headaches) and young tramp snow shovelers (who walk from door to door saying “Hey mister, would you like me to shovel your walk?”) who were out on the cold pavement after the recent 4-inch snowfall. These two charming sidewalk cleaners are Donna, age 6, and Susan, age 4, daughters of Anton Lenzen, 227 E. Division St. Sporting pink cheeks and rosy roses, the shovel maids blithely insisted they weren’t a bit cold. (1963 Journal file photos)
