County fair representative says: Dream big in 2013

Pierce County Fair Coordinator Ann Webb says this year’s fair in early August will include a “feed the hungry” theme.

“The Pierce County Fair in Ellsworth is stepping up to the challenge, and we want to see if we can bring in more food donations that any other fair in Wisconsin,” Webb said. “Fairgoers are being encouraged to participate by bringing a canned good/non-perishable food item or two with them when they visit the Pierce County Fair from August 8 to 11.

“We’ll be accepting donations at any of our three gate locations or pre-fair in the fair office located in the Seyforth Building.”

Webb said all donations will be distributed by the fair staff after the fair closes. Donations will go to food pantries throughout Pierce County.

Webb added that fairs across the country are being challenged to make a greater impact on their communities.

“The International Association of Fairs and Expositions has asked all of its member fairs to come together to do a universal service project at their annual fair -- a food drive for each local community,” Webb said. “Every fair will report to the IAFE the amount of food donation brought in with the hopes that when the 2013 fair season ends, 20 million pounds of food will be brought in thanks to the fairs and their guests.”

Webb said she, the Pierce County Fair Committee and the fair staff thank all those in advance who are able to make the fair’s food drive the biggest in Wisconsin.
