A program at First American Bank in Hudson that has benefited numerous local organizations and charities is going citywide on Friday, March 28.

Businesses are being encouraged to allow their employees to wear “Denim with a Cause” that day for a donation of $5 or more. The money will go to YMCA Camp St. Croix’s capital campaign –- specifically for a welcome center at the Camp DayCroix site that the Y hopes to build in 2015.

The welcome center will serve multiple purposes. It will provide a storm shelter for the 250 to 280 children per week who attend the day camp over the 12 weeks of summer.

During the school year, its classrooms will be used for environmental education, conferences and other programming.

The center also will have a banquet hall that can seat 250 to 300 people. YMCA leaders say it will meet a community need for a place to hold large banquets, conferences, retreats and other events.

First American Bank created Denim with a Cause to raise money and awareness for local charities and non-profits.

Every Friday, employees may wear jeans or other denim clothing for a donation of $5. The money goes directly to the organization chosen to benefit.

Dawn Marquart of First American had the idea of inviting other Hudson businesses and organizations to participate in a citywide denim day to help Camp St. Croix with its fundraising.

“Make it a special day for your company –- host a potluck or engage employees in other activities in conjunction with the Denim with a Cause fundraiser,” a flyer promoting the event says. “If you’re a retailer, have an in-store special to draw traffic to your store so employees and the general public can give to the DWC fundraiser.”

Camp St. Croix also is inviting its corporate and organization partners in the Twin Cites metro area to participate.

“I set a goal of $50,000,” Marquart said. “Reaching into the Twin Cities, it might be possible. But if we raise $20,000 or $15,000, that will be good, too.”

While the kick-off for the citywide Denim with a Cause is March 28, the promotion will run through the end of May, when a check will be presented to Camp St. Croix.

Businesses and other organizations are invited to pick one day a week to allow their employees to wear denim with a cause, and invite the public to contribute, too.

Those wishing to participate or who have questions about the promotion should contact Marquart at (715) 381-8330 or dmarquart@fa-bank.net.
