City talks funding, function for fire chief position
City Council and city staff reviewed again at last week's council meeting the funding and function of a new, full-time, paid fire chief position approved last year.
After accepting the resignation of the department's volunteer chief for the last four years, Bob Schwalen, talk turned to filling his position both for the interim and the long term.
City Administrator Scot Simpson asked for the council's direction on the two options for hiring a chief:
1) Approve the job description as is and begin the hiring process.
2) Analyze and discuss the issue more, following a timeline that ends in hiring next spring.
