City postpones concrete rehab project

The Journal reported in January about the city's plan to rehabilitate part of the South Main Street surface and learned recently the city has postponed the project. Journal file graphic

Information from River Falls and City Engineer Reid Wronski confirms that the South Main Street Concrete Rehabilitation project, announced in the Journal earlier this year and slated to start this summer -- has been postponed.

Several factors contributed to the decision:

1) Another break in the Ninth Street water main made its replacement a higher priority than the concrete rehab.

2) Plans unfolding for the new Falcon Center may change access and the road configuration in the area.

3) Progress on the plans for the concrete rehab was not satisfactory.

The rehab project was to include the parts of South Main Street between Cemetery Road and Locust Street. The city plans to reschedule the project after further review of River Falls' Capital Improvement Plan and 2013 budget results.
