Cell tower proposed for city of River Falls
T-Mobile is asking the city for permission to build a telecommunications tower at 618 N. Fourth St. next to the hilltop water reservoir. The request and plan could go before the Plan Commission at its Tuesday evening, June 1, meeting, that would also include a public hearing.
City Administrator Scot Simpson said T-Mobile would lease the site. The company already has an antenna attached to the old water tower on South Main Street and leases that site.
Simpson said T-Mobile would like to build the cell tower this year, probably over summer.
The hill on which the tower is proposed interferes with cell-phone reception, creating dead spots. The new tower would clear out those spots and improve capacity, Simpson said.
City officials are waiting to get T-Mobile's application plans. That's part of the special-use permit process that's needed for such a project.
Anyone with questions should call City Planner Tony Steiner at 426-3424.
