On Wednesday, March 26, construction crews began the process of pumping concrete into the forms installed atop the foundation of pier 8W near the Minnesota shore of the St. Croix River.
This was the first concrete pour of 2014. The forms had been under construction since March 1 when the first segment was put in place. Crews spent most of March completing the forms and installing reinforced steel.
Throughout the day on March 26, trucks loaded with concrete were backed onto the temporary causeway where the mix was deposited into the pumper. Prior to the pour, the forms were wrapped in a protective layer as a measure against the cold and to aid in the curing process.
The St. Croix Crossing project will connect St. Croix County in Wisconsin and Washington County in Minnesota with a modern, four-lane bridge by mid-2016.
