BRC hockey: RF's Jenkins named Coach of the Year, Ross Andersen Player of Year
First-year Wildcat hockey coach Nick Jenkins has been named the Big Rivers Conference Coach of the Year while senior Ross Andersen is the conference's Player of the Year.
The 2008-09 BRC Hockey All-Conference team was released Friday afternoon. In addition to Andersen on the First Team, senior Luke Jenkins was named to the Second Team and senior Pat Durhman received Honorable Mention.
Nick Jenkins picked up Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Wildcats to a record of 16-3-1 overall, 9-2-1 in the BRC. The Cats finished second in the final conference standings, one point behind Eau Claire Memorial.
Jenkins was a player on the last Wildcat team to play in the state tournament in 1997. He served the previous three seasons as assistant Wildcat coach under Jim Joseph and took over the program when Joseph resigned at the end of the 2007-08 season.
Andersen was named to the All-BRC team for the second straight season. He led the BRC in scoring this season in goals scored with 28, and total points with 49. He was a Second Team selection in 2007-08.
Luke Jenkins was named to the All-BRC Second Team for the second straight season while Durhman was honored for the first time. The two defensemen anchored a Wildcat defense that allowed opponents an average of less than 20 shots on goal per game. Jenkins also scored five goals and had 13 assists while Durhman had four goals and six assists. The pair served as team captains along with Andersen.
