Border Battle here Sunday
Wisconsin will try to defend its title when the second annual Trek Border Battle Mountain Bike Races take place this Sunday, Aug. 16, on the trails of White Tail Ridge Corporate Park in River Falls.
Last year, over 600 racers from the Wisconsin Off Road Series (WORS) and the Minnesota State Championship Series (MNSCS) competed against each other for bragging rights and a traveling trophy in the inaugural event in River Falls. Wisconsin edged Minnesota by 16 points.
The Border Battle is the eighth race on both the WORS and MNSCS circuits this season. Racers from each state will compete for points towards the overall series awards.
The event begins with a trail run at 8 a.m. and mountain bike racing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A kids' race, for youth age 10 and under, will be held at 1 p.m. and concessions will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Among the events' main sponsors are The Route Bike Shops and Trek Bicycles. The trails at White Tail Ridge will present a course that is a challenging mix of predominantly single and double track with some areas of wide-open field.
