Battered, bruised and mixed up
Police arrested a 22-year-old UW-River Falls student for battery late Saturday night, but no one's been able to sort out what happened and why. Heavy drinking likely contributed to the conflicting accounts and blurry memories. Neither the college student arrested nor the young man who had his nose split open by a blow to the face could explain.
Both assailant and victim, along with others, were leaving a house at 302 E. Walnut street for the downtown bars when the attack seems to have occurred.
At first officers couldn't find the victim. He'd already been taken to the hospital.
Hours later the college student who was later arrested also went to the hospital for a banged-up hand that will require surgery.
The convoluted case now goes to the district attorney for possible charges.
