HUDSON: Free legal clinic help available

The St. Croix Valley Bar Association will staff a free legal clinic from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, in the St. Croix County Community Room of the St. Croix County Government Center. No appointment is necessary. The association will have attorneys on hand to meet with individuals for about 10 minutes to provide general information in the following areas of law: Employment law, family law, landlord/tenant and small claims, criminal/traffic, estate planning/elder law/probate, real estate, business law, and debtor/creditor. PRESCOTT: August nature programs offered

The Great River Road Visitor Center in Freedom Park, 200 Monroe St., offers the following educational programs in August:

*Friday, Aug. 7, 2-3 p.m.: A Prairie Primer.

*Sunday, Aug. 9, 2-3 p.m.: Plant Smash Art.

*Monday Aug. 10, 11 a.m. to noon: Butterfly Mysteries.

PIERCE COUNTY: Car seat fitting station available

Trained personnel at the Pierce County Public Health Department will inspect children's car seats for proper installation at its permanent fitting station. The station is located in the Public Health office, 412 W. Kinne St., Ellsworth. Call 273-6755 for an appointment.

HUDSON: Dance parties held at Phipps

Dance parties will be held from 7:30-10 p.m. Saturdays, Aug. 15 and Sept. 19, at The Phipps Center for the Arts. Tom Larson will offer a ballroom dance lesson from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Dancers of all experience levels are welcome. Cost is $12 per person. Refreshments will be served. HUDSON: Auditions set

The Phipps Childrens Theater will hold auditions for area students entering grades 7 through 9 for a production of "Scheherazade" from 4-6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 17 and 18, in the Black Box Theater of The Phipps Center for the Arts. Callbacks will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20. Rehearsals will be held beginning Sept. 8, with five performances given in October. Kelli Tucker will direct. For more information, call 386-2305.

ELLSWORTH: Master gardener training planned

The UW-Extension will offer general master gardener training during eight Thursday evenings and two Saturday mornings beginning Sept. 10, at the Pierce County Extension Office. Cost for the program is $115. Class size is limited with applications accepted on a first come basis. Topics that will be covered include: Basic botany, soils and composting, plant diseases and insects, woody trees and shrubs, herbaceous plants, lawn care, vegetables, fruits, wildlife, native plants, weeds, organic growing, houseplants and more.
