Alma Van Beek, 85

Alma Van Beek, age 85, of Roberts, Wis., died on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn.

Alma was born on July 26, 1924, in Hull, N.D., to parents Rensie and Anna (Droog) Haak. Like many of her generation who grew up in rural America, Alma attended country school. On Nov. 8, 1944, Alma was united in marriage to Alvin Van Beek at the Reformed Church in Westfield, N.D. Their union in marriage would be blessed with seven children.

Together, Alma and Alvin raised their family on a dairy farm south of Roberts. Alma enjoyed reading, games, sewing and needlepoint, crafts, cooking and baking, vegetable gardening and canning, salmon fishing, trips to visit family in Washington state, and being involved at her church. Alma was also a member of the Kinnikinnic Homemakers Club, and enjoyed sharing her recipes with the other women. Alma cherished her time with family, and was a proud grandmother to her 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Alma is survived by her children, Dan (Jeannie) Van Beek of Baldwin, Wis., B. Wayne (Jane) Van Beek of Hammond, Wis., LaVonne "Bonnie" (Dale) Bovenkerk of South Holland, Ill., A. Dale (Holly) Van Beek of Roberts, Susan (fiancé Al) Pinski of Roberts, Roger (Sandy) Van Beek of Roberts, and Lisa (Steve) Sollom of Roberts; grandchildren, Bill, Annie, Jon, Jason, Chad, Erin, Kelli, Josh, Michelle, Stephen, Jennifer, Laura, Amanda, Brian, Nathan, Jeremiah, Nicholas, Jonathan, Abigail, Lucas, Andrew, Allie, and Karin; great-grandchildren, Lillian, Axel, Brenda, Matthew, Emily, Karlee, Marissa, Courtney, Chelsey, Logan, Tiffanie, Lillian, Alexi, True and Riley; her twin brother, Elmer (Phyllis) Haak of Linton, N.D.; brother, Gary (Aggie) Haak of Hague, N.D.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; and her siblings, Albertus, Pete, and Ada.

Funeral services for Alma Van Beek will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, at the First Reformed Church in Baldwin with Pastor Tim Sluiter officiating. Visitation will be held at church from 9 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial will take place at the Baldwin Cemetery. Memorials may be made to her church or to charities of the donor's choice.
