5K Memorial Run in honor of Dan Gerbec set Oct. 5

A 5K Run/Walk is planned by the family and friends of Daniel Gerbec on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Glen Park. Daniel was 23 and a senior at UW-Eau Claire when he died on Sept. 28, 2012.

Called the "Danbana Dash" after the bandanas that Dan always wore, the family walk will have a "super hero" theme and many activities planned. Besides the walk/run, there will be food, games, raffle, live music, and a memorial wall. Those attending are encouraged to bring a photo of a lost loved-one to hang on the Memorial Wall.

This first annual "River Falls Emotions in Motions" 5K Run/Walk for Mental Health will raise funds for, an organization dedicated to preventing suicide through public awarness and education, reducing stigma, and serving as a resource for those touched by suicide.

Following the run there will be a Danbana Dash for a Bean-Bag Tournament at the Lazy River Bar, 115 W. Walnut St.

Entry fees for the race are $25 for adults, kids under 12 $15. The Family Fun 1 Mile is free. Participants are encouraged to help raise funds by setting up thier own page at SAVE.Org/events.

Registration begins at 9 a.m., kids games 9-11:30 a.m.; 5K run/walk at 10 a.m. and the family fun 1-mile is at 10:15 a.m.
