Memorial Day events in River Falls area

Monday, May 26, is Memorial Day. The River Falls American Legion Post 121 will visit six cemeteries and present its annual program at Greenwood Cemetery on that day.

The women of River Falls’ Moose Lodge, 620 Clark St., fixed salad a-plenty for last Thursday’s second annual fundraising salad luncheon, which included soup, about 20 different kinds of salads, desserts and a drinks for $6.

Bernice Maier Pace died Tuesday morning, April 29, at The Lutheran Home: River Falls, at the age of 103. Her obituary can be found in this week’s Journal.

May 17 hazardous waste event kicks off 2008 recycling events

This year the spring Clean Sweep event will kick off a busy recycling event season on Saturday, May 17. The complete 2008 schedule includes separate collections for hazardous waste, appliances, tires and electronics that are open to all residents of St. Croix County.

Touch-A-Truck for kids is Saturday, June 21

You see them on the road and at construction sites. Now you have the opportunity to put your child right in the driver’s seat of some really big trucks. The locally produced event, called “Touch-A-Truck,” will feature nearly 60 trucks of all types; even huge earthmovers.

Knight riders: This one for big-hearted brother

Later this month the Blue Knights will roll their motorcycles through Pierce County, creating a collective roar to honor Terry Dubois, a retired Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputy who died of a massive heart attack last August.

Between the rain drops and continuous chilly breezes from the north, a troop of Junior Girl Scouts and three adults added to a relatively barren two-acre parcel which will someday look more like the city park it’s intended to be.
