These golden arches get modern makeover

Customers may have noticed a wide variety of construction work going on at their favorite place to get a Big Mac or a Happy Meal.

But while McDonald’s at 1505 Paulson Road on the north end of town may look closed, it continues to be open for business.

According to General Manager Elizabeth Van Someren, there may be times that the drive-thru lane is closed, but she says that will only be intermittent.

As of last week, construction crews worked on the main entryway, restrooms, back eating area and poured footings for the new 16-foot addition that will extend towards Paulson Road.

“We will be increasing seating and remodeling bathrooms and lobby area,” said Kristina Schoh, Courtesy Corporation-McDonald’s community relations manager, about the remodel.

Another addition to the original structure will be added to the back of the restaurant for the 78 members of the staff to use.

“We will be adding more space in storage as well with the cooler and freezer for increased capacity,” said Schoh.

Van Someren, a River Falls resident, said that the restrooms for now are located in the parking lot. She said that the temporary restrooms are nice. They have heat and music.

“Customers are pleasantly surprised,” said Van Someren about the reaction to the white portable commodes.

The remodel, projected to be completed on Dec. 1, will also include redoing the inside.

Van Someren, who has worked at River Falls’ McDonald’s since it opened 16 years ago, described the new aesthetics as a “spiffy, clean look.”

She said there will be a new way of ordering McDonald’s signature foods.

Schoh describes dual point -- the new ordering system -- as providing “…personalized one-on-one service which directly improves order accuracy. It gives us a chance to impress our guests at the front counter in a better organized manner.”

Van Someren said that everything else at the restaurant will remain the same, including the “same great service” and Wi-Fi.

She said that the new remodel is part of an upgrade for the 16-year old restaurant.
