While they’ve been rebuilt and modernized, the two dams on the Kinni in River Falls have a long history. The upper Junction Falls Dam was first constructed in 1867. It led to the formation of Lake George, The city has had eight dams at various locations. Early ones were used for flour and logging production. Around 1900 the two remaining dams were converted to produce all of the city’s electricity. Today the two dams only produce 1 ½ % of the city’s electrical needs.
